Provided by AGPIn a statement provided to a media outlet, European Commission spokesperson Anouar El Anouni said the bloc continues to back efforts aimed at maintaining the fragile truce and preventing further escalation, despite renewed Israeli strikes reported in southern Lebanon.
He said the EU has consistently urged all sides to adhere to the recently agreed temporary ceasefire and its extension, describing it as essential for enabling progress toward broader stability.
The spokesperson also expressed support for continued direct dialogue between Israel and Lebanon, encouraging negotiations as the primary path toward long-term de-escalation in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
The statement comes amid growing concern over continued Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon, which Lebanese authorities say have resulted in civilian casualties and damage to medical infrastructure despite a US-mediated ceasefire that took effect in April and was later extended into July.
